For the first time in history, we live in a society in which the gender that actually dies for our country, protects us, and fights to secure resources, are actually less advantaged than the gender that benefits from it.

How do we remedy this injustice?

Should the draft be reinstated in which women are also made to serve?

NO there should NEVER EVER be a draft. I have sons. I won't let them die for this. A draft is slavery. Americans should never be slaves!

Both males and females serve in the military and die in the illegal war on Iraq.

The wage gap is not a myth. I know of cases where the women were paid less for the exact same jobs as the men. It has nothing to do with leaving or working longer hours. IMany of the women have been with the companies longer and are more experienced yet a new male hire gets paid more than they do. Why is that?

Men are more likely to "job hop". That's is, they leave after only a couple of years because they are lured by the higher pay of another company. Turnover like this costs companies more than people taking leaves of absence for health or other personal matters. That's because when someone leaves, it means that the company has to look for a replacement and then spend time and money training that new person.

First, both men and women are dying in our wars.

Second, the wars they are dying in are NOT protecting us; they aren't dying for our country, they're dying to aggrandize a heartless fool.

Third, it's untrue that men are actually less-advantaged than women.

Fourth, no, a draft would be wrong. People should not be forced to serve in the military against their will.

As for your "wage gap is a myth" that is baloney. It's simply not true that ALL men who get paid more than their female colleagues of equal or more experience and ability, and equal or better qualifications work more hours or travel more for their job.

Treating all women as though they work fewer hours or are less willing to travel is unfair.

Second, that child-rearing is solely the responsibility of mothers rather than fathers doing their fair share is unfair.

70% of middle management are women?

99% of upper management are men.

(Wage discrimination is not the only way in which women in this country are disagvantaged, BTW.)

You mean the first time in American history correct? We fix it by admitting we need men's rights to be equal of those of women....we have now gone the opposite direction.

When you refer to the "draft" I believe you mean Selective Service, which is what young men are now required to sign up for. But I don't agree with either sex having to sign up for it. I think if there ever was a draft, we would need more forces to handle riots than war.

My how the youth of America has grow-en soft. "There should never be a draft". What kind of crap is that. The only reason this country exist is because many young men and women were willing to sacrifice for the greater good. Pathetic!.

I'd heard that the US was letting its women soldiers go to into combat (I'm guessing you're American - apologies if you're not). However, I thought that the majority of your fighting forces were still male? I think you're confused...

My idea is to have everyone the most violent offenders in prison be the ones to fight, since they know how. :)

I don't believe in the draft, really. i don't think anyone wants to willingly go into combat, unless they are survivalists and extremists. I don't think men or women should have to sign up for selective services, but I would do it if I had to.

You think that by requiring men to sign up for the draft is unfair against MEN? Well, think again: women have been DENIED the opportunity to serve their countries by mandatory draft and men are now blaming women for being unfair?!

Why do I say DENIED? I say it because if the Equal Rights Amandment (ERA) got passed, women would be required to sign up for draft, too, like men. Many women had campaigned hard for the passage of ERA, but unfortunately it went down in defeat. Ever since its defeat, the public interest in the ERA diminished, and some people like you even forgot all about what the ERA is truly standing for and are now blaming women for not participating for mandatory draft. Why not ask yourself why ERA failed, instead? Yes, there were women opposed to ERA on the grounds on mandatory draft, but MANY other women support it----which means, they are WILLING to participate in mandatory draft.

Well, for one thing, quite a few women are serving in the armed forces, doing many of the same jobs as their fellow man. Here at home, women still make less on the dollar than men do for the same jobs. I don't think the draft should be reinstated for anyone. We have enough young men (AND women) willing to join without being forced.

Maybe you should reconsider your opinion, it doesn't make much sense. I actually believe that women are just now beginning to take their rightful places in society, securing high-paying jobs while raising families, gaining rank in police forces and in the military, and running for political office in both parties.

If they begin to draft women, what are they going to do with the girls like me who would probably hide in the trench and cry while the bullets flew overhead? Some of us are happy being women... REAL women. I am perfectly willing to be the obedient/homekeeping/cooking/serving gender and let you guys keep fighting the fires, the wars, crime, etc.

There should NEVER be a draft. It's making people support war. It's making people kill and attack others. It's just evil.
2008-09-20 12:19:51 UTC
why do people always think that the solution to this is to include women in the draft?

i agree that there's an injustice, but it'd be better to get rid of the draft for men as well. equal, and much less violent.

good- the faster whosoever dies in service the better- its better than dying of high cholestrol and its delitrious effects- the latter just portrays you you as a man of low self control who is greedy- its better to die serving your country- dont you think

Women wont do any good if drafted. If anything that will help us lose a war.

Men benfit from it. they have women to cook for them and have kids for them.

I agree its crazy that men get all the dirty jobs and get none of the acclaim they deserve, at least from feminists. I think feminists should just start appreciating the fact that men put their lives on the line to protect their county. But feminists aren't going to think this way any time soon!

Feminists sometimes blame men for starting wars, but there are many examples of female leaders who were not exactly pacifist e.g. Margaret Thatcher.
