I took the time to learn your story and i need to inform you that I feel you're a good author and this story is written this sort of way that it holds the readers attention and is enjoyable and humorous to learn. I advise you publish the story to Reader's Digest they usually may pay you to put up it. It is a fashioned prevalence that women run into and it'll hit residence and hit the humorous bone of many men and women. Subsequent time I endorse you carry a small packet of facial tissues in your purse to make use of in such an "emergency" or carry a lady friend with you to keep the door or get some seat covers or toilet paper from a further stall or storage subject. I shouldn't have an embarrassing story because i'm a person and this concern is not too original in men's restrooms, and i don't mainly need to take yet another man with me to the men's restroom on account that I is also charged with solicitation for sex like a specified politician whose name I won't mention.

I understand first hand what you are saying, Icome from a somewhat germaphobic type house where you have to bathe everyday, if you didnt bathe pretty much the same time every day you would get scrutinized by both parents. There was always atleast one parent outside the door listening to see if you washed you hands with soap and water, they will come in and check the soap to see if it is wet and soapy. My father would come home straight after work everyday and get right into the shower. I didnt know no other way untiled I moved in with my current boyfriend whom I have to keep tabs on how many times a week he bathes and he sees not a big deal, when he comes out of the bathroom I have to remind him to wash his hands even though he didnt "Do anything", whatever!! Everthing I want in a diffrent kind of package I guess!

I'm not sure they like too but its more they don't think they have that many germs or that it takes to much time.

My brothers never washed there hands except after taking a #2 ( i could tell because you never heard the sink run and when i went in after they came out the sink was dry)

i asked them once why

one of them told me that all they did was pee its not like he was touching anything wet or anything.

the other one said that i didn't pee on my self so whats the point

yes i find it very gross

I'm sure there are men out there that wash but i would believe what the article says just from my own personal experiences

I think that there should be a class in school that is mandatory to teach things on Hygiene and health

i think it would help alot on the subject

i know that some germs are good for the body but i find it gross to touch the handle of a bathroom door knowing someone was just touching there genitals and did not wash

I took the time to study your tale and that i desire to tell you that i think of you're a stable author and this tale is written this type of way that it holds the readers interest and is exciting and humorous to study. I advise you place up the story to Reader's Digest and that they might pay you to post it. that is a user-friendly incidence that females run into and it will hit abode and hit the humorous bone of a lot of human beings. next time I advise you carry a small packet of facial tissues on your handbag to apply in such an "emergency" or carry a female chum with you to hold the door or get some seat covers or rest room paper from yet another stall or storage section. i've got not got an embarrassing tale because of the fact i'm a guy and this concern isn't too user-friendly in men's restrooms, and that i do no longer extraordinarily desire to take yet another guy with me to the lads's restroom because of the fact i need to be charged with solicitation for intercourse like a definite baby-kisser whose call I won't point out.

Why are you posing this question, and what does it have to do with Gender & Women's Studies? Just another way for you to bash men? Why are women's private parts filthier and more prone to infection, discharge, and odor than men's private parts?

The fact is, when I'm in the restroom, I see men ROUTINELY wash their hands. Men that don't get looked at funny. I wash my hands EVERY TIME because that's just how I was raised since I was a little boy. It's been ingrained in me to wash my hands, and I couldn't see it any other way. I'm almost a germaphobe when it comes to things like that. I keep anti-bacterial soap in my backpack where and in my car whereever I go.

To balance it out, statistically men are more likely to be germaphobes with OCD -- extreme, yes -- but I guarantee you their hands are cleaner than most women's.

By the way, I had to help clean up women's living quarters before, and their restrooms -- disgusting. I can't tell you how many dirty tampons, maxipads, underwear, dildos, and vibrators we found.

There are plenty of filthy women around.

That study shows only a certain percentage of men spread germs. So you can easily say that women go around spreading germs. You also say "like" as if these men enjoy spreading germs as if they're doing it on purpose.

EDIT: The hateful diatribe spewed by Fraxinus is just a testament to the fact that she's a bitter misandrist.

It's funny that she's said nothing about the millions of women that infect men & kill men, because they have a filthy, unclean vagina.

You do realize that the spread of STD's is a two-way street, don't you? Fraxinus is so ego-centric and femi-centric that she can not see this.

EDIT: KD below is just as sexist and misandrist. Women have to touch their private area too, when they wipe their privates with the toilet paper. KD, if you're saying you don't do this, then you are the one that's disgusting. It's also sexist that you say you cover the handle only after a man has used it -- like there aren't any dirty women out there. You misandrist women are such hypocrites.

I hear you on this one. What is even more disturbing is when a man goes to urinate, he actually has to touch his genitals (women do not) which may or may not be infected with an STD. Imagine THAT. Some imbecile goes to the loo, has a Herpes outbreak (hypothetically), touches his penis and then doesn't wash his hands. You follow him and touch the door handle and everything he's touched.

Sad to say but when I'm on the train and if I use the loo after a man, I will cover the handle with loo roll before I touch it.

Well--that's a false statement that "men like to spread around their bathroom germs." From your own source, 2/3 of us DO wash their hands, including me.

And, I'm not sure that you can trust the Soap and Detergent Association, who conducted the survey, to be either scientific or unbiased. They spy on people in restrooms?

Edit: And stop being a female troll, Franzia. This isn't really any better than the crap the male trolls post here all the time.

Edit: Ha-ha enjoy your sweater. I didn't compare it to rape jokes...I was just pointing out that you were making a post just to torque people off and not to stimulate meaningful discussion.

I actually saw a man pee in a public sink a few weeks ago. Now mind you this was in small town USA at the only watering hole in town. He not only got thrown out and barred but my friends and I made sure he knew that we knew what he had done. A bottle of bleach took care of the rest.

You know, Franzia, I often thought that some of the regular guys in here just cruised through the internet, looking for crap to throw at women. Studies that really did nothing more than demean women, that kind of thing. And now this....don't start switching to those level of tactics...come on!

EDIT: Franzia, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you, and it certainly was not my message to criticize you for unladylike behaviour. I am merely pointing out that this kind of article (not necessarily the subject matter) is designed exclusively to shed a negative light on men. We see this everyday from the guys...and I just wanted you to rise above it...thats all.

It is a specific form of filth spread by males that I resent and it causes illness and death in women.

The advice to "Now wash your hands" just isn't enough but when you've had a dump and cleaned your bottom, the dangerous bugs are easily spread if you don't. Where public hygeine is too dainty to campaign for men tp clean the rest of their private parts, is because it's too complicated for men to understand. I can't think what the reason can be otherwise.

The stealthy pollution comes from the unwashed member. A man pees several times a day - he swings into public places used by men in all types of business and industry - some work with chemicals even in offices. The man grabs all the handles provided and THEN he washes his hands. But whatever he has touched in the gents, or before that - and everything else since he left home - he has left traces on his member. He will repeat this exercise over and over throughout the day handling himself, then washing his hands. By bedtime, if he forgets, or doesn't leave time for a shower, so he just brushes his teeth, washes his face and hands, and plans to introduce the filthiest object on his body into his beloved!

Thousands of women die of cancer of the cervix caused by the introduction of chemicals into women in this fashion. Brothels demand that men wash first, and so do other sex-workers. Our husbands and lovers are our killers if they forget to wash themselves before congress. Lots of men know this but forget - can't be bothered - and refuse if women 'nag' about it.

This isn't just feminist propaganda, nuns never get cancer of the cervix, neither do lesbians and virgins.

I find the results for both men and women quite disturbing. If you read the numbers for women without seeing the men's you would consider that bad too, wouldn't you?

In any case, many things I've seen in bathrooms lead me to believe that many humans belong in a zoo.
2007-09-17 22:00:28 UTC
Franzia- you would be amazed at the number of women over the years I have witnessed not washing their hands in the bathroom.
2007-09-17 19:52:06 UTC
Hi Franzia, maybe it's because it doesn't matter considering women are four times as dirty as men anyway:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,252144,00.html

TUCSON, Ariz. — Your office desk harbors far more bacteria than your workplace restroom, and if you're a woman, chances are your workspace has more germs than your male co-workers', a new research report shows.

Women have three to four times the number of bacteria in, on and around their desks, phones, computers, keyboards, drawers and personal items as men do, the study by University of Arizona professor Charles Gerba showed.

Gerba, a professor of soil, water and environmental sciences, tested more than 100 offices on the UA campus and in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oregon and Washington, D.C. The $40,000 study was commissioned by the Clorox Co.

"I thought for sure men would be germier," Gerba said. "But women have more interactions with small children and keep food in their desks. The other problem is makeup."

Don't get Gerba wrong: Women's desks typically looked cleaner. But the knickknacks are more abundant, and cosmetics and hand lotions make prime germ-transfer agents, Gerba said. Makeup cases also make for fine germ homes, along with phones, purses and desk drawers.

Food in desk drawers also harbors lots of microorganisms, and it is more abundant among female office workers. Gerba found 75 percent of women had munchies in their desks.

"I was really surprised how much food there was in a woman's desk," he said. "If there's ever a famine, that's the first place I'll look for food."

The news isn't all negative for the fairer sex.

Gerba found the worst overall office germ offender is men's wallets.

"It's in your back pocket where it's nice and warm, it's a great incubator for bacteria," Gerba said.

Another hot spot for bacteria in men's offices: the personal digital assistant.

"Men tend to play with their Palm Pilots more," Gerba said. "I think they're playing video games or something."

The average office desktop has 400 times more bacteria than the average office toilet seat, Gerba said.

Gerba said using a hand sanitizer and using a disinfectant on office surfaces helps, with 25 percent fewer bacteria found on surfaces that were regularly disinfected. Once-a-day use should be sufficient.

"You don't have to go crazy with it, but with the key areas, desktops, phones and keyboards probably need to be disinfected once in a while," he said.

It may be that some people (men and women) are lazy or lack of etiquette or a don't care attitude...

Being in the Field of Biotechnology, I have to wash my Hands because of bacteria, viruses, and RNA contamination

My husband is a neat freak also and he cannot stand dust, dirt or germs. We both believe in good handwashing to prevent the spread of germs. It works.
2007-09-17 23:46:23 UTC
I used to work for England's largest computer retailer as sales & engineer, while there our cleaner (husband & wife team) said that in her experience the women's toilets were considerably worse than mens. And that opinion had formed from well over a decade of self employment in the cleaning (industrial) environment.

Handwashing is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of disease. But, less than half of all physicians, even, properly wash their hands between patients. Nosocomial infections cost our health care systems billions of dollars. I strongly urge everyone to wash your hands with warm water and soap often. There are numerous effective gel products, too, to use in lieu of soap and water. Just carry a small container of it in your pocket to use frequently during the day. Beware: Many products that are called "sanitizers" are bogus.

Not to be rude, but there are millions and millions of people in the world who don't even have bathrooms. Who don't even have clean drinking water. For whom infection and disease are a given. It's hard to get too worked up about this issue.

I have seen a study that indicated the dirtiest place was the supervisors phone and the cleanest was the water in the toilet bowl and the seat. So much for that.

I'm not sure if you're being quasi-humorous with this, but yes people should wash their hands. Men should wash their hands more often, to make this a healthier place. Hope you're doing well, Franzia.

It is a well known fact that cleanliness is next to making your species sick. The reason is that your body does not have enough experiences with having to fight bugs.

Im sure there is better more concerning issues to worry about

Umm...all my exes were as clean as I am and I'm a clean freak. I'm not sure if I believe such a wide generalization, even if they throw numbers and stats in there...remember that such studies are always very limited....
