and DID it get published?

My novel is nearly done with the plotting stages, and I'm planning on writing it over winter. I could use some fresh perspectives on publishing :)

Yes, I've finished my book and I'm looking to get it published.

As for your book, you are at the point where you shouldn't even be thinking about publishing yet- you haven't even started to write yet. For you to be thinking about publishing would be the equivalent of applying to college when you haven't even started high school yet.

We are both writers here - I haven't even finished my first Magnum Opus.

Publishing is difficult - unles you are an 'accepted' author - on board already - most publishing houses won't give you much more than a cursory look - that is - if you can find one for your genre.

The Boss went to a forum recently, and the advice was that 'anything with numbers and secrets or whatever is a good starter'. The Da Vinci CODE (bleep, bleep, bleep)... The SIXTH Sense, The Bourne CONSPIRACY etc, etc.

Often the advice is 'self-publish' - which you can find some very reasonable sites for doing - or by having an internet site of your own.....

(a certain googling company are offering these free for business for twelve months followed by a very reasonable fee monthly). We know one young guy who has set up such a site.

Good luck - now, Igor - how's that damned book going? How much longer, slave? Keep it up and you WILL be a GHOST writer (hmmm - not a bad title grab there).....

I've had a few articles published traditionally, as well as a self published book.

Before taking your novel to a publisher, get some good feedback on it and adjust accordingly, and make sure it is well edited. It may be worth just putting it aside for a few months so you can look back at it with a fresh perspective.

Good feedback may be hard to hear, but a critical eye is what you need to polish it.

Also, be prepared for rejects and dropped communications from publishers. It's a hard business and a particularly hard times right now. Remember it's not about the ones that reject it but the one who accepts it that matters.

Best of luck with your project.

Meh.. I just finished writing my first book yesterday. I just need to read it over and edit it. Once its completely finished I will self-publish it.

I plan to create a blog on the same topic of my book and sell the ebook off my blog. I will also sell the book on Amazon as an ebook.

If sales are good.. MAYBE I'll try to get it published with a real publisher. But by then I have to wonder if its in my best interest.

Yes, I have. However, I don't know what publishing tips I could give you because I worked on something very different from you. I did studies and experiments with octopuses that were published, but I think science publishing is very different from novel publishing.

:) Good luck!

Ive had a few articles published in technical publications, plus one coming up in the next week or so in a major US newspaper.

I'm goofy, but I'm very good at what I do for a living.

EDIT: I also have a song on iTunes (that's publishing, too). I'm a musician in my spare time.

Many of my articles pertaining to management have been published in management journals/magazines, if that matters. I did fancy myself as someone who could write like C. S. Lewis, or J. R. R. Tolkien, when I was younger, but I've lost faith in that path.

I tried to write once and got thru the first page and realized it sucked, I just couldnt get out of my head onto paper correctly. I admire you for writing and hope it does good.

Let us know once its published, who knows I might buy the book if it sounds interesting to read. Whats it about if you dont mind me asking?
