Question:
Is it true that women consider chess a silly game for nerds...?

Many brilliant people regard chess as the ultimate intellectual game when played at a high level. Those who play chess at a high level, i.e. professionals, argue that chess is not only beautiful but its strategic and tactical elements can be employed in just about any field to excel (see Kasparov, Garry - How Chess Imitates Life).

Can anyone provide links to literature which suggests that women find chess "beneath" them and thus are uninterested in it or is there a better explanation for why there is such a disparity between males and female professional players (95% men in 1996 as per ICCGM).

Would you kindly explain why there are so few women who are grandmasters in chess and it's for any of the reasons mentioned above, please provide a reference to support the reason(s)?

It could be that the agents of Patriarchy stand guard outside of chess clubs. When they see a woman approach they activate a siren only audible to women that drives them away.

Another explanation is that it's due to hard wired differences between the brains of typical males and females.

While chess isn't my favorite game, I have been known to play a time or two. I'm not very good for the simple reason that I rarely play so I'm out of practice. But I don't consider it a silly game. That's probably the reason why it's not my favorite. I like the games that incorporate a bit of silliness. It makes them more fun!

Chess is played at a high level in the streets by gang bangers and hustlers. Women are neither impressed or turned off by it. They just don't have time to mess with games like chess and go.

I find chess fairly boring, but I play it sometimes with no.2. son, who quite likes it. But I am not particularly fond of games in general, I have no particular dislike of chess more than any other game. And there are plenty of men who have no interest in games either, my husband never plays them for instance.

I stink at chess, so I admire anyone who understands it and can play it well, regardless of what sex they are. I thought that it was a left-brain vs. right brain thing. Sorry, no references.

While you men are busy playing chess, us women are passing cigars and making sure beverages are filled regularly. Then we go to bed and wait for our man to finish and come do something bad to us.

i dont think woemn find chess to be "beneath" them.... but maybe a majority of women are just not into chess as much as men... the reason for the uninterest could be anything...

I AM A TRUE MAN AND I KNOW ONLY NERDS PLAY CHESS.

WHY WOULD THEY SIT AT A BOARD MOVING LITTLE PIECES AROUND WHEN THEY COULD BE EATING MEAT AND SHOOTING THINGS?

THEY ARE A SHAME TO MY GENDER.

Most women do not have the skill to play chess. Their brains work differently, and more tuned to kitchen duties. Anything they are no capable of doing is considered not worth the effort or call it nerdy.
