Question:
Does lowering physical standards create equality or increase conflict?

There is much debate about how the military, police and fire departments have lowered physical standards and it has caused conflict between the sexes.

The U.S. Marines have never lowered their physical standards and still maintain separate boot camps and physical standards between the sexes.

During the time I was in the Marines and even talking with buddies still in, the different standards were never an issue like the other services, police and fire departments.

Is lowering male physical standards to make women feel better actually a good thing?

I don't believe they should lower the physical standards.

Keep them as is, if women can't pass those standards, they don't belong. Feminist or not, I want only people who are physically capable of saving my @ss during times of conflict, war or in general population.

It seems to cause alot of conflict for some

Personally, I don't think they should lower standards for things like military, police, and fire departments. There is a reason the bar is set so high - because that's what it takes to get the job done safely and well. If women are able to meet those requirements, fine. Let them in. If not, then this isn't the career for you. People shouldn't be allowed to have a tantrum because they are physically unable to do their "dream job" and get the standards lowered. That's stupid. The world doesn't owe you a job. If you can't do it, well sorry, but the local fire department shouldn't have to cater to you and lower their standards so you *can* do it. That seems very unreasonable to me.

Lowering male standards is a mistake, I think. Maybe having separate standards and training for men and women is a better idea. That way you've still got some serious muscle to work with and the women can get in as well. But it does kinda draw attention to the fact that men and women are not physically equal and never will be.

Vital things like that should not lower standards

firemen strength requirement is VERY important when your in a burning building that fire person has to carry you out.

I believe any woman can join those jobs where strength and stamina are really key if they can meet the same requirements. Otherwise what is the point of men having higher requirements if women don't have to do the same illogical after all those requirements were there for a reason to save lives

i think of that the generic public has a definite aggrandized and exalted thought concerning the criteria required to handle those careers interior the 1st place. the generic public places an excellent style of appreciate for the two police officers and firefighters. they are appeared as brave, brave civil servants -- superheroes, to be extra precise. So, in many cases, they think of that the well being standards might desire to be very intense. you may desire to (or, might desire to might desire to, in an suited international) be in height shape in any case requirement for a majority of those vocations, in accordance to the generic public. And, the generic public thinks that the criteria set are so intense such that purely adult males can gain them, using fact all of us comprehend the thought girls persons are bodily weaker (i'm in basic terms stating a reality which the generic public believes). the generic public would not comprehend approximately those quite laxer get entry to standards. I watched a television tutor as quickly as approximately training destiny officers. i became appalled at a number of the persons who have been getting into. they did no longer take their training habitual very heavily, and, as a result, have been nowhere close to the actual shape I were anticipating from them. they might fairly run 0.5 of the mile with out coming decrease back to the beginning up line actually breathless. this isn't the variety of police officer you elect chasing down a runaway drug addict, suitable? If the generic public would not comprehend the genuine figures and makes assumptions consistent with their ideals, then sure, i will see how they might have fake preconceived notions approximately which standards are decreased for which team. Your question assumes that the generic public is conscious approximately your figures -- the glaring fallacy on your good judgment.

I read a book not long ago that said that women have on average 20% less body mass than men, and are generally 20% weaker than men. It's not a knock on woman, it's just how we're built. With that in mind, there should be (in my opinion) slightly different standards for woman and men. I don't believe that lowering standards for men would be a good thing at all to match women. We should all be expected, on those roles, to attain our peak performance for our gender, whatever that would be.

Let's put it this way:

You've already posted a question like this and had a lady that was in the military firmly correct you. I'm taken to the opinion that you aren't found of listening.

Furthermore, changing the standards is not lowering them, per say. There isn't one universal judge of "strength". For instance, if the weight of modern weaponry is less because of technological advancement, it's not necessary to require people to be able to carry the weight of obsolete weaponry. Instead, they might be expected to have a higher tolerance to heat--as something more important than just strength--, as most deployments are now in extremely arid climates.

For crap's sake, people in the military aren't slinging around 90 lbs battle axes and climbing cliffs with their pinkies. They're holding guns, shooting them, and moving around. Most men and women can do that if they get in shape. It's not the freaking Olympics. Christ.

No when I was in the army when we ran the women would drop out of the run as soon as it started. But if I was to drop out I would have been reprimanded. All it does is cause resentment towards them.

Now do you get afaid when you see a woman cop? Do you feel confort if your home was burning an your needing to be carried out an you see a woman fire fighter???

Well first it creates a lot of conflict. No it isn't a good thing. I think it is wrong to allow women in a male "areas"!
