Both. She is very straight forward and I actually think she gives decent advice. However she can also be overbearing, unsympathetic and narrow-minded. She tells people to do things but doesn't tell them how and believes her beliefs are the "right way" despite her personal life. On the other hand, the people that call in know what they will get. They know who they are calling and what to expect. I really don't feel sorry for some of them.

I'm more empathetic than Dr. Laura, and just look at my answers and questions. I don't care if one of her answers is helpful, the majority are not, as they are based on her biased, self-righteous, right-wing conservative point of view. There's no way I"d be handing out advice with her family history.

Don F. What do you expect from a woman who hadn't spoken to her own mother since the 1980s and didn't even know that she had been lying dead in her condo for at least two weeks before her body was discovered? Not only that but Dr. Laura has also been estranged from her sister for years.

I haven't heard Dr. Laura in our town since about ten years ago, but I did listen to her occasionally while at work back then. I found that she helped clarify some moral issues for me, while I disagreed with her about some other things. She prompted me to think deeper thoughts than my little pea brain normally entertains, so I'd say she was helpful to me.

She does pander a bit to her conservative audience but she does make a lot of good points and I tend to agree with a lot of what she says. So overall I'd say she's helpful.
@Untamed Rose- I'm not going to argue with the whole Deryk Schlessinger debacle, he was indeed a moron. However you should at least listen to a few of her shows before you're determined not to take her advice. An individual always finds out for her/himself as to whether something is worth listening to.
@Untamed Rose- I'm just saying to listen to the show once or twice, so you can say for YOURSELF whether the show is harmful or helpful. I think she is overly conservative for my taste, however that doesn't stop me from tuning in and critiquing her points.
@RoVale- would you mind sharing those links? I never said she was a Saint, she's far from it. I merely said she makes some good points and I agree with her on about half of the things she says.

I think she is harmful.
Okay she is a career woman and despises other women who work.
She promotes morals - but had a nudie photo spread.
Her family is a joke, see other posts about her mom, sister, husband, son,,,,,.

Look at her family life and ask yourself how she could possibly give advice to others. And nude pictures of her are all over the internet. Some role model!

I havnt listen to her show... but I do know there is no way in Heck I'd ever take that womans advise on family, life and love..maybe on the soup of the day but thats it.
Google her son and husband...take a look at how well they turned out in life.
Don I really dont think so...I've read some of her writing seen how she bashes career mothers, despite herself being one...as a career mom some how I dont think I need to.
I have other better non hypocritical sources to turn to in life should I need advise.

All she does is call BS on women who like to complain.

She is VERY harmful because sometimes she tells women it's their own fault or that maybe they should treat their husbands with a modicum of respect. That's ridiculous because we all know the men are to blame for everything.
I dunno b/c haha LOL!

I think she's awesome. She cuts right to the chase. She's like a smarter version of Dr. Phil. ;-)
