Resolved by whom? The church?

It's a religion and has rules, if you don't like them then maybe you should look for a new religion or make one yourself.

A man can be a priest. A woman cannot be a priest. A woman can be a "priestess". It is strictly a linguistic distinction. There are many, many priestesses, of whom I know a dozen easily. It is just not a problem. Their function is essentially the same as a priest during ritual. What you see as a problem was resolved years ago. You only need to pick the proper religion for your needs.

Within the Roman catholic, Greek orthodox and Russian Orthodox religions (which are the ones that have priests) the priest is the earthly embodiment of Jesus Christ. As such they are quite firm that the earthly embodiment be a male. It is their contention that females cannot be the the earthly form of the son of god.

I really don't think that will change any time soon. We choose our religions, so if this is unacceptable to anyone they can always practice a different form of christianity that does allow female ministers.

Most other religions have ordained women as this link below shows. The Catholic church seems to be less democratic that the other religions. They are clinging on to old world traditional religious beliefs that are sexist towards women.

I'm with Gothic Bug. A religion is supposed to be sacred to the people who believe in it. Christians have held onto their beliefs for thousands of years, and that's why their religion has endured as long as it has. If you start changing the teachings of the religion anytime society puts pressure on you--whether it be women in the church, accepting gays, or abortion--then you might as well forget the religion all together. A religion is supposed to have a set of values that endure the tests of time.

Mind you, I am not a Christian. I'm agnostic, and fairly liberal in my politics. However, I am not so audacious as to expect that someone else sacrifice their religion that they and others have stood by for two thousand years, just to appease my views. If you dislike the politics of the Church, there's nothing stopping you from forming your own set of beliefs outside of it.

Christians don't have female priests because Jesus chose 12 male buddies to help him.

There's no other reason priests are males. It's tradition and traditon is law for many religions.

Some churchs already understand this. Others have been slow to understand that we are called too. Sadly my own church is one of the slow ones :(
