Many women believe that they are primarily judged on appearance, and that their appearance says a great deal about them to the world. It's a vicious societal-personal pressure cycle thing.

But it obviously can get out of hand, and that's tragic.

The media values female beauty. That is evident in fashion magazines, on television, and in film. Unfortunately, this bleeds over into society. We deem fashion models the most beautiful women in the world, and yet most American women are between a size 12 and size 14. It is clear why women seem obsessed with beauty; what is unclear is how to change this.

Fashion & Marketing.

Three hundred years ago, it was the men who had the "Peacock" complex of strutting their stuff ... now, cosmetics have women running around in a frenzy trying to become a "Painting" made by marketing people ... these marketing people are focused on having women chase their own "Peacock" feathers rather than look inside to find love.

Because that's what the society dictates (most especially men). They want to be accepted in this patriarchal society of ours, and looking "almost perfect" is one way of achieving that.

For a woman, there is that fear of being rejected by a man she loves. If she's looking perfect (in a way), there is a lesser chance of being rejected. It sounds shallow I know, but it's a fact.

Really, it all boils down to finding acceptance.

Probably because if we all saw what they really looked like underneath of the makeup and makeovers we'd talk bad about them. It's all about image. How sad.

Because if they are fat & ugly they might only get a million dollars per role instead of 5 million.

fear of unacceptance

driving need to feel safe and accepted.

Its one thing we have a little control over in a world of what feels like chaos.
