Question:
Why is the primary reason for the girls of today wanting to wear scanty clothes ?

1) Is it because they want to make up the deficiencies in their personalities (or is it because they dont feel confident about their personalities, so they feel they need to gain attention by flaunting themselves)?

2) Is it because they have bad family values and morals, and are attracted to superficial stuff in Hollywood.

3) Or is it because of the media that promotes being 'a woman' as superior to being a girl? Why do you see young girls today wanting bad guys as their boyfriends? Is it because they want to be in an 'exciting' relationship than a more 'stable' relationship.

Revealing clothing is eroticized and considered popular for women in today's culture. Unequal amounts of clothing always reflect power relations.

1. It's because they want to be what society says they should look like.

2. I doubt clothing choice is indicative of one's morals, or else serial killers would all be wearing miniskirts.

3. Actually, younger and younger girls are being eroticized. Didn't Tommy Hilfiger make thongs for kids a few years back? They watn bad guys as their boyfriends because, AGAIN, the "bad boy" character is eroticized.

A study of the history of clothing will show you that these things are cyclical. Barely 100 years ago it was legal to get married at the age of 13, with the parent's consent. Many people walk around wearing only a loincloth in warm weather. Ancient Cretan women and ancient Egyptian women were proud of their breasts and always displayed them in public.

For most teens puberty means a fascination with the opposite sex. The hormonal surges can be difficult to control, and one of the things that separates adults from children is having an active sex life.

Many of our misbehaving teens don't have parents at home to control them. Working single moms can't be there all the time for their children, nor can single fathers for that matter. Parenting is much harder than it used to be - formerly the relatives would help out, especially the unmarried uncles and aunts. Even this small extended family hardly exists anymore for Americans.

Could be any of those, or it could be

4) When you feel like a victim because of your body and the fact nothing you do can make people stop staring at you like meat...sometimes it's very empowering to pretty much give them a good reason to look/comment/give a lot of attention.

For some, we counteract the feeling of constantly being stared at or approached by dressing in a way that makes us feel we're in control of it.

May not make the most sense, but for me it made a hell of a lot more sense than feeling the way I did before I took my power back =o)

What exactly is your definition of skanky clothing? Is it simply a nice shirt that shows a little cleavage? or maybe a skirt so short that it shows her butt while she's wearing nothing but a thong or no panties at all? You need to be more specific, considering everyone has their own definition of dressing like a slut these days.

As far as why women like the so called "bad boys", that mostly pertains to younger women (like in their early twenties), who are often from a background where they were brought up around a like environment, so that's all they really know and accept.

In general, I think it's attention, especially in the US. Everyone strives to be an individual yet at the same time they want to look like someone famous. It's sort of a paradox. European girls and women dress sexy too. The difference is - there the women wear the clothes. Here, it's the other way around.... at least in my opinion.

Out of your three reasons I would say 3 is the most accurate. But I would add that a lot of people wear clothes to actually express their personality as well as just substituting a for a lack of one.

It worries me that a lot of parents are sexualising their young children though, for me that's one of the most shocking things parents do.

It's because society allows and encourages it. Have you been shopping lately? I tried back to school shopping for my 9 year old, it took me 5 stores to find her school shoes that didn't have heels on them. It's ridiculous and that's what is in the store and that is what people are buying. If society didn't purchase it, they wouldn't make it. Then our society has the whole keep up with the people next door mentality, it's sad. What happened to free thinkers and original people?

For the same reason boys feel the need to dress like "gangstas" and look ridiculous with their pants hanging at the knees. It's fashion, and young people feel the need to "fit in."
