"This is for my girls all around the world/Who have come across a man that don't respect your worth/Thinkin' all women should be seen, not heard/So, what do we do, girls, shout out loud/," and "We are beautiful, no matter what they say/Words can't bring us down," and "I'm the only one that can rescue me from me," and "I believe they can take anything from me/But they can't succeed in taking my inner peace," and many, many more.
However, she also dresses like a tart and flaunts herself as a sex object. Feminism (and I'm using that word here because I'm talking about it in a historical context) has always been about women wanting to be viewed as more than sex objects; yet Christina seems to be presenting the message that women can only be appealing to men if they dress and act trashy, despite her lyrics that say otherwise. She promotes promiscuity and has posed nude or semi-nude several times. She defends her choices by saying that by posing and dressing this way, she's sending out the positive message about being comfortable in her body. Well, of course she is. She's got a perfect body. But the reality is, most women don't have the body of Christina Aguilera. If women are already insecure in their body image, seeing Christina's perfect body is only going to make them even more insecure.
So what do you think? Is Christina Aguilera a positive or a negative influence for girls and women?
