If you listen to the lyrics of her songs, they are about as female-empowering (I use the phrase "female empowering" since "feminist" seems to be controversial in this section) as you can get. For instance,
"This is for my girls all around the world/Who have come across a man that don't respect your worth/Thinkin' all women should be seen, not heard/So, what do we do, girls, shout out loud/," and "We are beautiful, no matter what they say/Words can't bring us down," and "I'm the only one that can rescue me from me," and "I believe they can take anything from me/But they can't succeed in taking my inner peace," and many, many more.

However, she also dresses like a tart and flaunts herself as a sex object. Feminism (and I'm using that word here because I'm talking about it in a historical context) has always been about women wanting to be viewed as more than sex objects; yet Christina seems to be presenting the message that women can only be appealing to men if they dress and act trashy, despite her lyrics that say otherwise. She promotes promiscuity and has posed nude or semi-nude several times. She defends her choices by saying that by posing and dressing this way, she's sending out the positive message about being comfortable in her body. Well, of course she is. She's got a perfect body. But the reality is, most women don't have the body of Christina Aguilera. If women are already insecure in their body image, seeing Christina's perfect body is only going to make them even more insecure.

So what do you think? Is Christina Aguilera a positive or a negative influence for girls and women?

I'd say she's a bad influence. I doubt she wrote those lyrics herself anyways + what does she wears when shes singing those lyrics says more that the lyric itself.

Here are one of her other lyrics from the popular song "Candy man" :

"He's a one stop shop, makes the panties drop ; He's a one stop shop, makes my cherry pop"

Doesn't sound like a good influence to me.

I think religion gets more credit than it deserves. It is man that creates positive or negative results. Until mankind admits this and stops passing the blame onto a particular sect the problems we face will never be resolved, because there will always be something we can blame it on. Science created the nuclear bomb, it also created eugenics which is what Hitler used, so do we blame the worlds problems on science, or do we blame them on man. Religion can be used to play a positive role or a negative one, just as science can, but the end result is mans choice. I would have to say man has had a more negative influence on the world than a positive one. ;-)

Her songs are a good influence for sure, her ones from circa 2000-2001ish were so fun and full of life, they still are for the most part, however, she seemed to be a better influence back then for younger adolescents/tweens. Not everyone was so proficient with the internet then.

Nowadays, kids can google celebrities at the drop of a hat and look at their pictures (seriously, follow the link, and just look at the very FIRST image result, really.. really? Ugh.).

On the other hand, when I was about 13 or 14, she was really popular, and I saw how she dressed in her videos. I never thought to myself "less clothing=more beauty," I just figured that's simply how celebrities dress, not average everyday girls, we wear regular clothes, they dress like dolls, I never really thought there was much comparison. I'm sure that's how alot of girls think.

i love her songs, if you listen to the lyrics they're really good. christina hasnt influenced me at all. it was really sad when i heard about her being abused as a child, so her songs really mean something. she does wear a lot of makeup and dresses a bit slutty, but if you look at other celebrities they are much worse than her. :)

Any songstress or pop starlet who sets out to be a beige role model with zilch risque' quality is doomed. Controversy and sexuality is what makes superstars these days.

Are girls that weak that they need to be empowered?

Smart people take after both good and bad influences. A smart person would see a bad influence, and realize that they want to be nothing like them.

She has no political agenda as such, she is just trying to sell DVD's. Governments do not care about feminism, they just want your vote and to get you working full time as well as having babies.
