Question:
So feminists, by your definition of feminism (dictionary)?
Rawr

Then the 'feminists' with power are actually anti-feminists (Harmen and the man haters)

The modern 'feminist' movement is actually sexist (at least in the 1st world, I have no issues with 3rd world feminism.)

That most 'anti-feminists' (as people who oppose the feminist movement) are feminists

That 95% of EVERYONE are feminists.

Then isn't the dicionary definition outdated?

Dude; if feminists are considering this as rant, then I will say that they are all I-D-I-O-_-S.

BTW, if you use Merriam-Webster dictionary, it gives a near equivalent of the definition. Feminists who shame and blame are:-

A-S-S-H-O-L-E-S

And those who don't are real feminists.

BECAUSE of the definition. And by principles those who blame others are idiots. You need to kick the past and gear the present into your future.

I wanna make 100 cents for every dollar that a man doing the same work I do makes, here in the U.S. (1st world). Not 60 cents. Not 80 cents. 100 cents. The Ledbetter vs. Goodyear pay discrimination case was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court just last year AND THEY FOUND THAT SHE WAS PAID LESS FOR THE SAME WORK as her male counterparts . . . but she didn't find out until after the statute of limitations expired, so Goodyear got off scot free! If feminists are lobbying for equal pay in the U.S., then they obviously haven't succeeded, yet, which would suggest to me that feminists are not, in fact, in power, and their work is in fact valid and not sexist.

BTW, you do know that the craziest people in any movement are the ones who make the most noise, right? There are probably no more real "man haters" in the feminist movement than there are "women haters" who are MRAs.

I don't know if anti-feminist is the right word to describe them. Sexist, definitely. Misandrist, for sure. Extremist, yeah. I think pretty much everyone here agrees on that.

But... if you are aware that the people here who call themselves feminists are using the dictionary definition, then what exactly is the problem? Semantics? How petty of you. Are you really so desperate to create strife that you've resorted to bashing people for how they define words?

I feel the definition needs to be updated We decide, non-feminist what feminism is, and can prove it by mountains of proof. Perhaps we should start emailing websters and giving them our definition.

Wow, you're so misguided I hardly know where to begin...

First off, the dictionary does not provide authoritative "proof" of anything. It is simply a book which strives to REFLECT our used meanings of words.

But even if we accept your definition, which is one of the most widely used ones...

"the 'feminists' with power are actually anti-feminists (Harmen and the man haters)"

Several problems here..

1) In no world that I have participated in are the feminists (of any stripe) in (institutional, structural) power.

2) You have completely (and I would imagine intentionally) missed the point of the SCUM manifesto. It is clearly, to some degree, meant to be tongue in cheek. Or did you just miss the part where they advocated the total end of ALL human reproduction (male or female)?

It is not a straightforward declaration of serious policy inclinations, it's a rhetorical device (much like Steinam's What if Frued were Frida? essay) meant to make points and spark debate. Mission accomplished.

"The modern 'feminist' movement is actually sexist "

Based on what? Because modern feminists try to raise "women's issues"? How dare they!

"That most 'anti-feminists' (as people who oppose the feminist movement) are feminists"

No, most anti-feminists are not feminists. They are insulted that women have started to think that their issues are just as important as men's and want to put women/feminists back in "their place".

"95% of EVERYONE are feminists"

Yes.

So in short, I don't think the definition is outdated, but you are.

EDIT:

1) Harriet Harmen is the most powerful in the UK? Look, I'm not from the UK, but I find that difficult to believe... But even if she is, a lot of criticism about her is, again, based on misinterpretation.

For instance, she has said-

"“It cannot be assumed that men are bound to be an asset to family life or that the presence of fathers in families is necessarily a means to social cohesion.”

That doesn't mean that she thinks fathers are always irrelevant- it means that she thinks we can't assume that they are always necessary (as in, my two mommys would also do a good job raising kids). The point of a statement like this isn't to attack fathers, it's to resist unduly lionizing the heterosexual two parent family as the only way to parent. In fact, if you asked her, a bet you a million bucks she'd say we can't assume that mothers are necessary either (as in, my two daddys can raise me just fine too).

2) Germaine Greer and Gloria Steinam have no power over what's taught in any women's studies classroom (certainly not mine). Clearly you haven't been in one lately, but the point of any feminist classroom is to encourage critical, positioned thinking about a number of perspectives on gender, race, and class inequality. Only the weakest of teachers (and certainly the ones calling themselves 'non' feminists) would ever base a course around a single point of view...

No, to all of the above.

Many anti-feminists don't want equality, they believe in male superiority.

The definition is still accurate, and most feminists fit the definition, as does anyone that believes in gender equality.

'Or should feminism be defined by its movement's actions?' -- Yes. The definition that you'd find in the dictionary is outdated when compared to what Feminism has become as of today.

Where did you find your 'definition', which you unhelpfully fail to provide?

Try this one:

fem⋅i⋅nism  /ˈfɛməˌnɪzəm/ –noun 1. the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.

2. (sometimes initial capital letter) an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.

3. feminine character.

I could not attempt to answer your (thinly disguised rant) 'question' as it makes no sense.

The dictionary definition is still intact; it's just that most people who espouse it have lost sight of its true meaning. Political conservatives often have the same problem; that's what neoconservatism is.
