[quote]he 2014 independence referendum saw a burgeoning of women’s involvement in Scotland’s political life, with women on both sides of the debate bringing a fresh energy and new talent to Scottish public life. We now want to maintain that energy by bringing women together, whether they voted yes or no, to fight for 50% quotas for women representatives in the Scottish Parliament, in local council chambers and on public boards.

Women have played a central role in securing social and economic progress in Scotland. From the women who joined Mary Barbour’s army to fight against rent rises, to the women who campaigned to secure fair representation in the first Scottish Parliament, women have been at the forefront of the fight for social and economic justice

Despite some progress, the governance of our country - in our council chambers, on public boards, and in our parliament - is still dominated by men. We believe the only way to achieve a balance in public life, so that our elected representatives reflect our society as it is, is through legal quotas.

"Women 50:50 - The Campaign for 50% representations of women in politics?"

I'm not sure I understand? There are people who would like to usurp the long standing system of democracy we have to force a gender representative model of power? Only along gender lines and not for those that represent our interests even if they happen to be a different gender than us?

If this is the case, then this is an absolute departure from everything we've ever understood to be representative of our interests in our political democracies. What if *I* as a male only had the right to vote for a male in my riding, but he was ideologically opposed to most of my interests? What if I wanted to vote for the female candidate that better represented me in all facets of life (with the exception of our body parts) but I couldn't because there were already 51% women?

And if we go down this dogmatic route, will there be calls for forced representation from EVERY group? Isn't it just easier to then create 2 or more systems of government whereby each group is represented by their own gender, or race or handicap of whatever the flavour of the month is? (Obviously not, but these crazy ideas need to be spelled out in order for some to see how ridiculous they are).

What is the actual purpose of politicizing gender?

A Far Fetched Dream!!!! Would solve a lot of issues.... Women are not that ready to wage war..... As long as the OLD MALE FARTS run the government, this will never happen....Maybe the enlightened public, will eventually smarten up and get rid of these losers.... Who cares if the person is male or female. The important thing is that the country thrives and is run properly !!!!!

I am not in favor of "quotas" BUT if any thing should have a quota it's the government, something that is supposed to represent the people, which is half female and half male. it would also have to enforce quotas on race as well to represent to racial make up of the country.

That makes ZERO sense. None at all.

If you want a truly 50-50 ratio in government positions of power, then you must see that the only thing that is right and proper is a mandatory 50% Drummer / 50% non-Drummer ratio.

No. It sounds undemocratic, largely pointless and based on an unverified belief that men aren't capable of handling authority in an even-handed and fair manner.
