Does it actually mean, as real friends you can only get so close?

when I was a very small child Barry Goldwater (I think) had a campaign slogan what said "In your heart you know he's right." There was also a guy around here running for something who was named Pickett. People were always defacing his posters and writing "in your nose you know he's right."



The real meaning of the saying, well, I'd say it's a loose parody of Lincoln's "you can fool some of the people all of the time, etc., etc. I don't think the author thought he was Oscar Wilde or Jonas Salk or anything. Still did better than Jesse Jackson ever managed, and he's made a career out of trying to come up with similarly stupid bromides.



But I suppose you could pick your friend's nose. If he or she was sleeping and unaware of it. You could it Boogerulery. In fact, Foamy did this last night when he got caught hungry and realized he was out of his own, and Chik'n in a Biskit crackers. He was caught green-handed and treated very snottily by the arresting officers.
